HIV in Sioux Falls ...

The January 2007 Semi-Annual HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report states five hundred and twenty nine cumulative cases of HIV/AIDS were reported to the South Dakota Department of Health from 1985 through December 2006. Thirty-four new HIV/AIDS cases were reported from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006. Twenty two of these cases were male and 12 cases were female.

There are an estimated 325 people living with HIV/AIDS in South Dakota, 71% male, 29% female. Blacks and Native Americans are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS with Blacks compromising 19% of the living cases and Native Americans 16%, compared to their comprising <1% and 9% of the population, respectively.
