HIV in Sioux Falls ...

The January 2010 Semi-Annual HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report states six hundred fourty four cumulative cases of HIV/AIDS were reported to the South Dakota Department of Health from 1985 through December 2010. Thirty-five new HIV/AIDS cases were reported from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010. Twenty three of these cases were male and 12 cases were female.
 
There are an estimated 400 people living with HIV/AIDS in South Dakota, 76% male, 24% female. Blacks and Native Americans are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS with Blacks compromising 16% of the living cases and Native Americans 17%, compared to their comprising <1% and 9% of the population, respectively.
